6. The Misadventures Of Awkward Black Girl

If you’re at all familiar with the web series genre, then it’s likely that you already saw this one coming. While this list is in no particular order, Issa Rae’s The Misadventures Of Awkward Black Girl still manages to fill the number one position. Coincidence? Nah. The show is actually really, really good.

ABG is centered around the lead character, J (played by Rae). Self-conscious, funny and surrounded by a cast of characters who are equally awkward, ABG follows J through her day-to-day life as she works at a job she hates (but supplies plenty of comedy) and goes through the ups and downs of dating (more awkward comedy).

There’s a reason why Shonda Rhimes (aka the Queen of ABC) partnered with Issa Rae to develop a series for that network and why Forbes dubbed her one of their 30 Under 30 entertainers in 2012. Check an episode of ABG out below and find out for yourself what all of the fuss is about:
